What Shape of Gazebo Will Be Best for Your Garden?

Tips on Choosing The Best Gazebo for You

These days, gazebos come in a wide selection of shapes and sizes, so it can be a little tricky to find the perfect one to suit your outdoor space. Here are a few ideas to keep in mind when deciding on what shape of gazebo will be best for you.

Gazebo Shape Options

When it comes to gazebo shapes, there are a few main types -

  • Hexagonal
  • Octagonal
  • Oval

The most common style of gazebo is the octagonal shape, as its eight sides create a large enough space that can accommodate a big group of people and can be used for a variety of purposes.

However, as octagonal gazebos do tend to be on the larger side, they are probably not the best choice for those with a smaller garden space. Instead, a hexagonal gazebo may be a better option to choose. With slightly fewer sides, six rather than eight, this style of gazebo still provides plenty of space without dominating such a large portion of your garden sheds in Ireland.

If you are in the market for a more discreet design of gazebo, then an oval shape could be the perfect choice. These usually will only have a roof and no sides, making them a little more seasonal in use than some of the larger gazebo designs.

Gazebo Size

When it comes to choosing the right shape of gazebo, you will also need to consider how big or small you want it to be as well. If your garden space is a little on the smaller side, then it is recommended you opt for a structure size not exceeding 8mx8m.

This size of gazebo should be the perfect choice for families, but may not be so great if you want to entertain regularly and need to accommodate more people. In these instances, sizing up to a 10mx10m structure would probably make a better fit.

Although it isn't a huge difference in terms of sizing up, the extra space will allow the room required for family functions and events. If you think this still isn't going to be large enough for you, then why not opt for a 10mx12m structure size instead. These will generally be octagonal in style and are only really advisable for those with a large amount of outdoor space.

Typical Gazebo Woods

Now that you have decided the shape and size of your perfect gazebo, you will also need to keep in mind what type of material you would like to use as well.

Typically, no matter their shape, most gazebos will be made from wood.

However, as wood is a natural material and can be at risk from the elements, you need to keep in mind that your gazebo will require upkeep and wood-staining treatments each year. Most gazebos will be made using pine wood, but cedar and redwood are also common.

You can always choose to change the colour of your gazebo by opting for a vibrant wood-stain too. If you want your gazebo to look a little more modern rather than traditional in style, aluminum designs are now also available too.
